CCSD Offering Annual VILLA Parent Academy Program

CCSD Offering Annual VILLA Parent Academy Program

The Cherokee County School District is accepting applications for its annual parent academy program.

VILLA (Volunteer Instructional Leadership Learning Academy) is a free seven-session program that offers CCSD parents the opportunity to learn more about their school district and how to be more engaged in our schools.  CCSD earned the Georgia School Boards Association’s Leading Edge Award for helping to develop and pilot the statewide program.

Participants learn about the role of School Board members and school district operations, visit schools and district offices, participate in question-and-answer sessions with School Board members, the Superintendent and senior staff and attend a School Board meeting.

“What an amazing program!” a Class of 2023-24 VILLA graduate shared.  “This program was very insightful in how things work behind the scenes.  I knew there were many moving parts, but now I know the importance of each one.  I am confident that the work CCSD is doing will benefit every child.”

Sessions are 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28 and Nov. 4 in Canton (dinner provided); a field trip to schools from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 (lunch provided); and a final session and dinner from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, with graduation at the 7 p.m. School Board meeting in Canton.  Meals and other program costs are sponsored by Credit Union of Georgia, a CCSD Partner.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.  Participation is limited; participants will be notified of their selection for the class by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The application is posted here in English and here in Spanish.
