CCSD Celebrates STEM!
Teasley MS Principal Kathi Monti shares what the STEM accreditation journey has meant for her staff and students.
CCSD and partner Discovery Ed this week celebrated the Cognia STEM accreditation status achieved by 11 of its schools, including all seven middle schools. Discovery Ed has been working with CCSD the past three years to focus on STEM, providing essential professional development and resources for the district.
The schools recognized included Ball Ground ES STEM Academy; Knox ES STEM Academy; RM Moore ES STEM Academy; Creekland MS; Dean Rusk MS; ET Booth MS; Freedom MS; Mill Creek MS; Teasley MS; Woodstock MS; and Woodstock HS. Clark Creek ES STEM Academy was also recognized at the event for its state STEM accreditation.

The reception and presentation, held at the CCSD Education Services Facility in Canton, featured brief presentations from administrators at each school, describing the changes they saw as teachers and students embraced engaged learning that focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Heath Tippens, Vice President of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development, spoke to the group of teachers, administrators, school board members and community partners about the significance of STEM in building an employable workforce and a vibrant community.
Terri Johnson, southeast region director for Cognia, noted Cherokee County School District as a leader among STEM-focused school districts. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Hightower and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Nicole Holmes extended congratulations and praise for the schools who undertook the challenge of seeking accreditation, and Dr. Erin Jacobs, curriculum coordinator for science and STEM, gave an overview of the process the schools completed. School Board Chair Kyla Cromer expressed gratitude on behalf of the School Board for the effort made to keep students engaged and learning through STEM. School Board members Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison, Kelly Poole and Rick Steiner also attended the event.
